I finally got around to scheduling a furnace maintenance visit this fall after putting it off for two years. The technician checked the blower motor, cleaned the burners, and replaced the air filter. He also tightened some electrical connections and tested the carbon monoxide detector. It cost about a hundred bucks, but now I don't have to worry about the heat going out in the dead of winter.
